A city portrayed as the center of the world, yet is the capital of Israel. A city that is holy to the three largest monotheistic religions yet has been the scene of many raging battles, having been besieged, conquered, liberated, recaptured and united countless times through the ages. An eternal city that is both physical and divine, whose every stone tells a story, and that has been yearned for and adored like a young bride, attributed to have been blessed with all the beauty in the world. As one approaches the city on a tour to Jerusalem, perched on the Judean Hills, one is gripped by an inexplicable sense of excitement and anticipation. The weight of its history and eminence enfold as you enter for a walking tour of Jerusalem that promises a religious and spiritual experience, excitement and pleasure, entertaining adventures and fascinating historic and archeological sites as well as amazing modern cultural tourist attractions for lovers of the arts, theater, music, architecture and fine dining. We have several daily tour options for visiting this magnificent city. For itineraries and prices click here. A Jerusalem day tour will take you to the heart of the city – the Old City, which is surrounded by a wall and divided into four quarters – Jewish, Armenian, Christian, and Muslim. The walls house the important holy sites of the three major religions: the Western Wall, holy to the Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, holy to the Christians and the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount, holy to the Moslems. Jerusalem tours will take you to visit the incredible archeological sites inside and surrounding the Old City, uncovering layer upon layer of Jerusalem’s 5000 years of history – such as the Western Wall Tunnels and the magnificent Cardo, while south of the Old City is the City of David, where King David established Biblical Jerusalem. In addition Jesus Christ lived and died in Jerusalem, which is a major pilgrimage site for whoever wishes to walk in His footsteps. The Christian quarter houses some 40 churches, monasteries and pilgrims’ hostels as well as the Via Dolorosa the ends at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher – Jesus’ final path to his crucifixion and burial site. The Old City is surrounded by hills, each of which is significant in its own right, and which offer amazing panoramic views of the city. At the southwest is Mt. Zion, with its Dormition Abbey built on the site that Mary spent her last night, and the Room of the Last Supper, where Jesus ate his last meal. To the east is the Mount of Olives, with its ancient Jewish cemetery and many famous churches such as Pater Noster, Dominus Flevit, and Gethsemane. In addition to the holy places throughout the Old City that you will visit on your tours of Jerusalem, there are many fascinating sites that are well worth seeing, such as the colorful market – with its colorful ceramic ware, beautiful beads, ethnic clothing, embroidered cushions, colorful wool carpets, candles and countless different souvenirs – as well as the promenade along the tops of the Old City walls, during the day and at night, which offers a wonderful view of the Old City and the New City. A tour in Jerusalem would not be complete without a visit to the New City, construction of which commenced in the late 19th century, and which offers a variety of picturesque neighborhoods, such as the German Colony, Yemin Moshe, Me’a She’arim and Rekhavia (to name just a few), some of which also offer varied night life activities. There are many other interesting and unique sites from different periods throughout the city, such as Armon HaNatsiv and the Promenade, the Monastery of the Cross, and the YMCA building. More modern sites include the Supreme Court, the Biblical Zoo and the Makhane Yehuda market, with its unparalleled variety of exciting sounds, colors, flavors and aromas. Museum lovers will find a myriad of rich exhibits at the Israel Museum, Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Bible Lands Museum and the Islamic Art Museum and many others found in the city. The Eternal City of Jerusalem Posted on April 21, 2019February 24, 2020 by tofra Jerusalem is probably the most unique city on earth.
